Interview Ki Taiyari – Yeh Questions Zaroor Padho
Broadway Infotech ka interview accounting basics, Tally knowledge aur communication pe focused hoga.
Accounting Basics Questions
Q. What is double-entry bookkeeping?
Double-entry bookkeeping is the fundamental principle of accounting that states every financial transaction affects at least two accounts — one account is debited and another is credited by the same amount. This ensures that the accounting equation (Assets = Liabilities + Equity) always remains balanced. For example, when a company receives cash from a customer, Cash account is debited and Sales Revenue account is credited.
Q. What is the difference between a debit and a credit?
In accounting, debit and credit are not simply “money in” and “money out” — their meaning depends on the type of account. For asset and expense accounts, a debit increases the balance and a credit decreases it. For liability, equity, and revenue accounts, a credit increases the balance and a debit decreases it. The golden rules of accounting — Real, Personal, and Nominal accounts — define this more specifically.
Q. What are the golden rules of accounting?
There are three golden rules. For Real accounts (assets like cash, machinery): Debit what comes in, Credit what goes out. For Personal accounts (people, companies, banks): Debit the receiver, Credit the giver. For Nominal accounts (income, expenses, losses, gains): Debit all expenses and losses, Credit all incomes and gains.
Q. What is a journal entry and what does it contain?
A journal entry is the first step in recording a financial transaction. It contains the date of the transaction, the accounts being debited and credited, the amounts, and a brief narration explaining the transaction. Journal entries are made in chronological order in the books of accounts and form the basis for all further accounting records.
Q. What is the difference between accounts payable and accounts receivable?
Accounts Payable is money that the company owes to its suppliers or vendors — it is a liability. When the company buys goods or services on credit, AP increases. Accounts Receivable is money that customers owe to the company for goods or services already delivered — it is an asset. When the company makes a credit sale, AR increases.
Q. What is bank reconciliation and why is it done?
Bank reconciliation is the process of matching and comparing the company’s internal cash records (cash book) with the bank statement to ensure they agree. Differences arise due to outstanding cheques, deposits in transit, bank charges, or errors. It is done to detect discrepancies, prevent fraud, and ensure the accuracy of financial records. It is typically done at the end of every month.
Q. What is the difference between a trial balance and a balance sheet?
A trial balance is a list of all ledger accounts and their balances at a specific point in time — it is an internal document used to verify that total debits equal total credits. It is prepared before the final accounts. A balance sheet is a formal financial statement that shows the company’s assets, liabilities, and equity at a specific date — it is prepared for external reporting and shows the financial position of the company.
Q. What is GST and what are its components?
GST (Goods and Services Tax) is India’s unified indirect tax that replaced multiple taxes. It has three components — CGST (Central GST) collected by the central government on intra-state transactions, SGST (State GST) collected by the state government on intra-state transactions, and IGST (Integrated GST) levied by the centre on inter-state transactions. In Tally, GST entries are recorded automatically when the tax rate is configured correctly.
Tally & Busy Software Questions
Q. What is Tally and what is it used for?
Tally is one of India’s most widely used accounting software. It is used for maintaining books of accounts, recording journal entries, managing inventory, generating financial reports like profit & loss and balance sheet, filing GST returns, and handling payroll. Tally ERP 9 and TallyPrime are the most commonly used versions in businesses.
Q. How do you create a company in Tally?
Open TallyPrime, go to Create Company, enter the company name, financial year start date, address, and other basic details. Set the currency and enable features like GST, inventory, or payroll based on the company’s requirements. Once saved, the company is ready for accounting entries.
Q. What is a ledger in Tally and how do you create one?
A ledger in Tally represents an individual account — like Cash, Bank, Sales, Purchases, or a specific vendor or customer. To create a ledger, go to Accounts Info, select Ledgers, choose Create, enter the ledger name, select the appropriate group (under which parent account it falls), and save. Every transaction in Tally involves at least two ledgers.
Q. What is the difference between Tally and Busy software?
Both are popular accounting software in India but are used in different business contexts. Tally is more widely used across industries — from small businesses to large enterprises — and is known for its flexibility and strong GST compliance features. Busy is preferred by trading and distribution businesses — it has stronger inventory management features and is commonly used in retail and wholesale sectors. Knowing both gives you a significant advantage in job interviews.
Q. How do you record a purchase entry in Tally?
Go to Accounting Vouchers, select Purchase (F9), enter the date, select the supplier’s ledger, enter the purchase ledger and amount, add GST details if applicable, and save. If inventory is being tracked, you also enter the stock item details. The system automatically updates the accounts payable and stock records.
HR Questions
Q. Tell me about yourself.
Mention your degree — B.Com or M.Com — your batch year, your knowledge of Tally and Busy, and any accounting-related project or internship you may have done. If you have done CA articleship even partially, mention it. Keep it to 2 minutes and be professional.
Q. Why do you want to work in accounting?
Say that accounting is the backbone of every business — every decision, from pricing to expansion, is driven by financial data. You are interested in understanding how businesses manage their finances in real-world settings, and this role at Broadway Infotech gives you that hands-on exposure with an international company.
Q. Are you comfortable working within 12-15 km of the office or relocating?
Broadway Infotech has specifically mentioned this preference. If you live nearby or are willing to relocate, say so clearly and confidently. If commute is a concern, assess honestly before the interview.
Q. How accurate are you when working with numbers?
Say that accuracy is something you take seriously — especially in accounting where a single error can cascade into bigger problems. You double-check entries, cross-verify totals, and use reconciliation to catch discrepancies. Give a brief example if you can — from a college project or any previous work.
Q. Where do you see yourself after completing the 6-month training?
Say that you want to perform well during training, build strong practical accounting skills, and transition into the permanent role. From there, you want to take on more responsibility — potentially handling end-to-end accounting for specific projects or clients within the company.
